During my daily patrols of hair blogs, I kept reading about hair steamers and how great they are. Of course we know that water is good for our hair and heat opens the cuticles to enhance penetration. So, it seems logical that steaming would be a good thing.
For a while, I satisfied my itch to buy a steamer by layering hot wet towels and shower caps over my deep conditioner. The results were pretty good however when my sister started talking about steamers, my itch came back! She and I searched the web for the best deals and finally found steamers for under $100 with free shipping.
I have been steaming my daughter’s and my own hair for about a month now and I am very happy with the results. My hair retains moisture and almost any conditioner makes my hair feel ridiculously soft. I figure that since most salons tack on $20 - $50 for a steam treatment then I’ve already made my money back.
I love my steamer and think it was a great purchase. How does it simplify my life? Well, I no longer have to try different techniques and products to moisturize my hair. The steamer works like magic to infuse deep conditioner, regular condition and even leave-in into my strands.
I've included some before/after shots of my nieces' hair. My sister steamed them both using Hello Hydration, honey, and olive oil. As you can see, the results are pretty impressive. Please share your steamer experiences.
I'm intrigued! Where did you buy your steamer?
ReplyDeleteI bought it from LCL Beauty's eBay store: http://stores.ebay.com/LCLBeauty The ones that are new with "minor scratches" are $99.98 w/free shipping. I cannot even identify where mine is supposedly scratched and it performs perfectly.
ReplyDeleteDo you steam your hair with or without a shower cap? There is so much debate on this issue that I don't know which is more effective. By the way, I just order my steamer from this website and got an additional $10 off by adding the coupon code "exoticmommies." I can't wait to start steaming, I've heard so many good things about it.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your purchase - I know you're having so much fun with it :-)
ReplyDeleteI want one but I still plan to hold off for a little while before taking that plunge. Too many other things taking priority right now :-(
I steam without a shower cap. I know the issue has been debated however the steam cannot penetrate through the cap. If you are going to use a shower cap then it seem as if a regular hooded dryer would provide the same results.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried henna treatments under the steamer? I am interested to know if this is feasible and if so, how long do you steam with the henna in your hair. Thanks so much for your advice.
ReplyDeleteThough I do henna treatments, I have not tried them under the steamer. I am afraid the added moisture might make the henna really messy. I suppose this is one case when it might make sense to use a shower cap. I'm due for a henna in another week or so. Will let you know how it works w/the steamer.
ReplyDeleteHi. Did you try the henna under the steamer? I'm about to treat myself to a steamer for my birthday and I'm also due for a henna treatment. I too think it'll be uber messy but might give it a go anyway.
ReplyDeleteI did not try it because I thought it would make a huge mess. However, I usually deep condition post henna and the steamer definitely comes in handy then.
ReplyDeleteMy Name is Angela, I love my steamer. I agree with you, and have found that no matter what I use my hair is ridiculously soft. I am able to use very inexpensive products right off the shelf now and acheive great results. Before, I was spending so much money trying to find my perfect fit product, only to always be left a little bit broker in my purse and my spirit. I guess b/c of what I was spending on these specialty products with marginal results, and with a 45 day money back garauntee, I just felt I had nothing to lose. I'm so glad I took a chance, In the long run it's saving me money and rejuvenated the love of my natural hair!
